Travel to La Gomera

How to get to La Gomera?

Most international flights land at Tenerife South Airport (Aeropuerto de Tenerife Sur). From there, you can reach the ferry port in Los Cristianos by rental car, bus, or taxi.

Alternatively, you can take a bus service all the way to Valle Gran Rey, right to the door of the vacation apartment.

Ferry Tenerife La Gomera

From Los Cristianos, you take the ferry to La Gomera, to the port of San Sebastian, the capital. The journey takes about 50 minutes. There are two ferry companies from Tenerife to La Gomera:

• Armas

You can book the tickets online. You don’t have to do it months in advance; usually, it’s still possible the day before the trip.

La Gomera Rental Cars

Our tip for rental cars on La Gomera is Cicar. Cicar offers good service, has offices at Tenerife airport and Los Cristianos port, and is one of the few car rental companies that allow traveling to another Canary Island by car.

Arriving by car – directions

If you are not driving by satnav (see above):

To reach our apartment by car from the port of San Sebastian, you first have to leave the port and follow the signs to Valle Gran Rey.

You’ll drive through various towns and serpentine roads, leading through the beautiful landscape of La Gomera.

Once you reach Valle Gran Rey…

• Continue straight until you reach a roundabout, directly after the “Disa” petrol station.
• Take the first exit and immediately follow the left curve that the road makes.
• After about 500 meters you’ll see a pharmacy on the left and, on the right, the large brown house where our vacation apartment is located.
• Immediately before it you can turn right and park. (If all the parking spaces there are taken, you can find more parking spaces on the main road and on the other side of the house.)
• At entrance “Playa Maria A” you will be met by our manager (or find the key box, if you arrive late).

Bus La Gomera

You can take the public bus from San Sebastian to Valle Gran Rey, or a bus service from the airport on Tenerife to the port of Los Cristianos and then on from the port on La Gomera to Valle Gran Rey.

Both buses stop right in front of our vacation apartment, and the bus stop is called “Casa Maria”.

Public bus from San Sebastian to Valle Gran Rey

You can take the public bus (line 1, departure times here) from San Sebastian to Valle Gran Rey. However, the bus does not start at the port but at the bus station in San Sebastian, which is about one kilometer away. It takes about fifteen minutes to walk there. With small children and luggage, we would not recommend it.

We like to travel with Autobuses Mesa, which offer transfers directly from the airport to Valle Gran Rey.

La Gomera Airport

La Gomera also has a small airport. It is only served by flights from the other Canary Islands. Occasionally, you can find good connections from Germany to La Gomera, for example, with a stopover in Gran Canaria.

Where is La Gomera?

La Gomera is one of the Canary Islands and is located in the Atlantic Ocean off the northwest coast of Africa. It belongs to Spain and is one of the seven main islands of the Canary Archipelago.
